Cleanup Glasgow Summer Clean

Cleanup Glasgow are delighted to be supporting Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Summer Clean 2021 which runs from 28 May to 20 June 2021.

We are promoting a Glasgow Summer clean on Saturday the 19th of June and we want you all to get involved!

As lockdown restrictions continue to ease and following excellent feedback from the Glasgow Spring Clean, we have a unique opportunity to take part in a fun and co-ordinated litter-pick, helping to improve our community and make it as beautiful as possible for the rest of the summer.

Current restrictions mean we can’t gather in one location. Instead, we can cover a greater footprint by taking part in smaller litter picks in our local area.

How to get involved….

If you have a Facebook account, make sure to respond as ‘Going’ on our Facebook event page. This is so we can pledge to Keep Scotland Beautiful how many volunteers we have contributed in the event as they’re trying, with their UK counterparts, to reach the #MillionMileMission which is litter picking a million miles across the UK this year!

To take part in the event, join or organise a litter pick in Glasgow. Firstly have a look to see if there are any Glasgow Summer Cleanup litter picks in your area (on 19th June) on this page , and on the Cleanup Glasgow Facebook and Instagram pages, and do also check out the discussion on the Facebook Event Page for the Glasgow Summer Cleanup for any interest in your area. You can also look for community groups on the map on the homepage to see if they have posted any events, or if they haven’t message them to ask them if they want to. If there’s nothing locally, then arrange a litter pick in your area on the 19th of June, see the instructions on this page , these very simple instructions tell you how to let create an event image (with time/location) and we’ll promote it for you on social media. Once you create this image please also post it on the Facebook event page discussion so everyone can see the event grow.

On the day…

On the day please take plenty before and after pictures and tag them #GlasgowSummerClean2021 and #CleanUpScotland on social media, and share them to our Facebook event page, and our Facebook/Instagram @the_glasgow_cleanup along with the number of volunteers at your event and total number of bags of rubbish collected.

Unfortunately we can’t provide equipment at this time but we have guidelines on what to bring and where to get it here.

After you’re finished your litter pick use the MyGlasgow app (go to ‘rubbish’ then ‘report fly tipping’) to report uplift. Make sure to pile your bags in a public place easily accessible to council vehicles.

Safety and Covid Guidance

The highest priority at this time is your safety, so please follow the latest public health guidance at all times and read the guidance from Keep Scotland Beautiful.

If you feel unwell, or have symptoms of Coronavirus, please do not take part in a litter pick, self-isolate immediately and book a test.

*As you’d expect this is an entirely voluntary event and we cannot accept any liability for any injury or damage sustained while taking part.

How do I get involved in future?
